Its beautifully balanced shape is enriched and made unique by an orderly series of delicate, light grooves that, on the white volume of the glass, look like tiny prints on fresh snow - Matti Klenell

Bianca is a family of luminaires equipped with a fixed-mould blown cased glass diffuser with a milky white satin finish. The decoration on the diffuser surface features an orderly series of shallow delicate grooves etched into the white glass, yielding an effect resembling small footprints on fresh snow. Mouth blown, belt sanded and dipped in acid to obtain the distinctive 'silk effect' typical of fine glassware, Bianca diffusers are available in three different diameters to complete all thirteen types of luminaires belonging to the family. The largest diffuser has a 50 cm diameter and, owing to its dimensions and the amount of glass involved, continues to pose a considerable challenge even for the ablest of glassblowers trained in the fixed-mould blowing technique, which – according to the traditional Venetian production process – is performed without any external aids for turning and shaping the glass blob inside the mould, but relies solely on the glassblower's skill and lung capacity. Bianca is available in the following versions: table-top without stem, floor-standing with base and stem, pendant, wall-mounted and ceiling mounted. The matt white coating applied to the various metal supports evokes the name and color of the diffuser. The Small- and Medium-sized versions (with 16 cm and 30 cm diameter respectively)  mount a dimmable Led board, while the Large-sized version (50 cm diameter) features an E27 lamp holder capable of housing various types of light sources. Bianca produces a very warm, diffuse and enveloping light emission in the surrounding environment.

This suspension version is available in three sizes. 16, 30 or 50cm diameter. The two smaller sizes can be used on the wall or ceiling and contain an integral LED light source. The 50cm size is recommended for ceiling use only and uses an E27 lamp holder into which retor fit LED lamps can be used.

About FontanaArte - In 1881 Luigi Fontana starts his business in Milan, manufacturing float glass for the construction industry. As the century draws to a close, the company is producing refined bespoke and one-off glass furnishing accessories. Gio Ponti, former founding editor of Domus magazine, is invited to take over the company’s art direction in 1931. Several of the pieces he designs for FontanaArte are still in production, including the 0024, Bilia, Pirellina, and Pirellone lamps, and the Tavolino 1932 coffee table. In 2012 Giorgio Biscaro was introduced as artistic director at FontanaArte. He graduated in Industrial Design at Venice University with a dissertation on LED lamps, collaborated with various design brands and in 2007 opened his own studio. In 2009/2010 he showed at the Salone Satellite, receiving enthusiastic feedback from the press and public. In 2011, he was selected by the magazine Case da Abitare as one of the 20 most talented Italian designers.
